The Conservation Commission advises the City on the use, development and conservation of natural resources and open space throughout the City. The Commission also acts as the Inland Wetland Agency, a regulatory land use board that decides on permit applications for work in and adjacent to inland (non-tidal) wetlands and watercourses.

Conservation By Laws

Organizational Oversight
The Conservation Commission is responsible for maintaining an inventory of natural resources throughout the city. We oversee two important environmental agencies for the City of Norwalk: the Inland Wetland Agency.

Agency Responsibilities

The Norwalk Inland Wetland Agency is charged with locally administering the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Act of the Connecticut State Statutes. It is one of the city's regulatory land use agencies. 

The agency regulates, with the review of permit applications, activities that may impact any of our city's inland wetlands or watercourses. When reviewing applications, the Agency determines whether the proposed activities are likely to impact wetlands or watercourses and whether any of the valuable functions of a wetland or watercourse would be diminished as a result of a proposed activity.

The Conservation Commission, Inland Wetland Agency are comprised of the following board members. All members are appointed by the mayor with the approval of the Common Council.
